Healthcare & Health Services
Qard Hasan is coming together to provide healthcare and other health services to individuals around the world living in abject poverty. We are working together to aid individuals with no access to primary healthcare due to financial and geographical barriers.Good health is central to human happiness and well-being. It also makes an important contribution to economic progress, as healthy populations live longer and are more productive. Poverty is a major cause of ill health and a barrier to accessing health care when needed. This relationship is financial: the poor cannot afford to purchase those things that are needed for good health, including sufficient quantities of quality food and health care. Good health is the foundation on which we build our world and without a strong foundation everything else crumbles around us. Freedom from sickness and disease allows children to play, evolve, attend school, learn and enjoy a healthy lifestyle building confidence and a natural ability within them.
Shifa Clinic – Case Study
The rural areas of Zakigonj has an estimated population of 150,000 and is one of the poorest regions of the Sylhet Division. With no access to primary healthcare, they must travel miles to the nearest Upazila Clinic for basic medical needs.
Due to this remoteness of the villages in Sylhet, maternal healthcare is completely inaccessible meaning that 75% of all births in rural Bangladesh do not have a skilled attendant during delivery.
Shifa Clinic has been built to provide healthcare and health services to impoverished families in Zakigonj. This clinic will help over 1,300 people per year.
Access to healthcare for all…
Qard Hasan works to provide free healthcare to impoverished families around the world. Through clinics, we provide free medicine, vaccinations and immunization, family planning and counselling. Communities are strengthened if people are fit, healthy and able to work, leading to full production and high yields. Our health programmes focus on mothers, children, the disabled and the elderly, who are the most vulnerable to disease and malnutrition. Our initiatives are aimed at increasing the capacity of our local partners on the ground to deliver quality health services by improving healthcare facilities, training local health professionals and providing medicines, medical equipment and other support material. Due to the scale of deterioration in healthcare in low income economies, we have made it a priority to develop essential health projects in these countries, each according to its individual needs.
